How to properly use and maintain small wind turbines?

In recent years, wind energy has gradually developed into a major clean alternative energy source and has been promoted globally.

As mechatronics equipment, small wind turbines are technology-intensive and highly automated. It will affect the normal operation of the wind turbine due to a component problem, and this also determines the necessity of wind turbine repair and maintenance.

Maintenance work of small wind turbines mainly includes the following contents:

1. First of all, all rotating parts of the wind generator need to be regularly inspected and cleaned, and the joints of each component must be lubricated.

2. The small wind turbines is installed outdoors. Although some anti-rust treatment has been done in the selection of materials, an overall inspection is still required. It is necessary to clean the appearance of wire ropes, rigging and all fastening connections and apply anti-rust oil to improve their working efficiency and extend their service life;

3. The motor is one of the important components for the operation of the small wind turbines. Therefore, in order to better use the wind turbine, it is necessary to regularly lubricate and maintain the generator bearings and replenish the grease appropriately;

4. Regular inspection and maintenance of outer slip rings and carbon brushes. When small wind turbines are working, the nose rotary body will often rotate with the wind under the action of the tail fin as the wind direction changes, causing the generator transmission line to be broken due to entanglement inside.

To solve this problem, many small wind turbines have their power lines split into two sections. The upper section is led from the generator to the outer slip ring at the lower end of the rotary body, and the lower section is tightly pressed with the outer slip ring through carbon brushes.

When the wind generator is working, because the outer slip ring keeps rotating, the carbon brushes are positioned through the carbon brush holder fixed on the column. 

And it is tightly pressed with the copper ring in the outer slip ring through the spring, and is often exposed to rotational friction and the invasion of natural wind and sand. Therefore, inspection and maintenance should be performed every six months or one year. During maintenance, remove the carbon brush, check the wear and tear, and replace it if necessary. Use a brush to clean the dust inside the outer slip ring, and then reinstall it in its original position.

5.Inspection and maintenance of generator transmission line plug connectors. As mentioned above, generator transmission lines are generally divided into two sections, namely the upper section and the lower section. 

The upper section uses a plug connector to connect the generator output line and the outer slip ring lead wire, and the lower section also uses a plug connector to connect the carbon brush lead wire to the lower transmission line (Because the plug and socket are equally divided into positive and negative poles, they generally cannot be plugged in incorrectly). 

However, the plug connectors of power transmission lines are made of hard plastic. If exposed to nature for a long time, dust will enter and even deform. Therefore, inspection and maintenance should be performed every six months or one year. During maintenance, remove the carbon brush, check the wear and tear, and replace it if necessary. Use a brush to clean the dust inside the outer slip ring, and then reinstall it in its original position.
